You have noted an important factor in AI breeding. Sometimes if an AI does not take, the cow will "short " cycle. Apparently this can happen within just 10 or 12 days of the AI date. It will be a regular estrus event but the interval will be shortened due to our manipulation of of the cows natural chemistry. I do not know the specifics here, but it does seem to occur regularly. Make sure the backup bull is available after about 10 days of the AI date. You must use at least 10 days between AI & backup if you want to spot the AI pregnancy via blood test at 40 days or so.
