As Bob mentioned we use the horse stlye round feeder as well ( the cattle feeder with the ring around the top will cause the adults hair on the back of the neck to rub off, it will work ok for calfs thou). One should try to keep the maxium number of adults per feeder to ten though (we had a problem with the animals picking at each other when we had 24 cows and two feeders, talked to a older raiser he suggested three and haven't had a problem since). We would have liked to have gone with big squares of hay (inside storage, you can really stack alot in a build using square compared to rounds, plus when you buy hay rounds seemed to be stored outside and squares are stored inside it seems) but we were concerned that the big squares would soak up to much moisture when it rains or snows. We have been to Wildlife Place in Mich. and they have, say 20 by 20 roofed buildings (no sides) that one could but hay in to stop the precipation but we haven't gone that far. The rounds are working and we have about 10 round feeders on hand so until we have a problem we'll keeping using them.
