A couple of years ago we noticed an absess in the upper neck area of a elk calf that we had recently (within week or two) given a shot of 8 way vacine. This reminded me of a statement a veterinarian had mentioned to me in the past that every time an injection is given, you risk an infection or reaction at the injection site. This was the veterinarians arguement for applying pour-on anthelmintic (parasitic control agents) versus injecting. In the case of the calf, the absess was lanced and flushed with peroxide and within days it was hardly noticeable. This is the only case we ever noticed.
