Steamboat Springs, Colorado is known for its' ski resort with a long history in the agricultural sector. The Harrington Elk Ranch, which was established in 1993, is located approximately 12 miles NW of downtown Steamboat. The elk ranch, which is four miles from the main part of the ranch, is situated on top of the mountains where wild elk, deer and antelope roam and graze.
Our breeding philosophy is geared towards both the velvet and the hard antler markets. Dakota Pride semen was acquired and used to develop a foundation of heavy beam mass for velveting and trophy bulls. The bloodlines used for velveting stem from championship animals such as Oak Point Eli, Phantom 8, Manitoba Weapon and Dakota Pride. Our trophy antler bloodlines can be found in the progeny from Durango, Bubba, Buster, Revolution and Platinum.
All elk at the Harrington Elk Ranch are fed daily with a custom developed pellet and home grown alfalfa and timothy hay. Each of the individual elk pens is personally inspected each day with serious scrutiny on individual animals. As a result of this personal attention, the elk are exceptionally calm and easy to work through the facilities for any testing or inoculations. The first class facilities were also built for safety to both elk and human workers.
The Harrington Elk Ranch has been testing for chronic wasting disease more than three years with 100% negative results. Careful investigation into other breeders was exercised before the eight additional elk were added to the original breeding stock. The exceptional management of these elk has developed an outstanding animal both physically and in disposition. The ranch is TB free accredited and all elk are NAEBA registered. |
