I have used a product called DE-Lice which is a Permethrin in oil based pour-on licensed for lice control in cattle. I havealso used Ectiban mixed in water and applied with a garden sprayer to thoroughly saturate the elk. Ectiban is also a permethrin licensed to treat Keds on sheep and to control lice and flies on cattle as well as a premise spray. Permethrins have very low toxicity risk for mammals and I have noticed no adverse reactions evan though I applied much higher doses than what the label reccomended for cattle. I treated my entire heerd in late March 2-3 years in a row and have not seen a tick for at least 4 years.
