Lets start by trying to learn a little about our competition, then maybe we can devise a plan to counter it?

Simple questions here will help us get that done:

1) How much (in US Dollars) do the New Zelanders get for a 600lb elk, being sold for meat. Sure there are different cuts but, we need to know what each animal is sold for. Can somebody get this info?

2) Who do they sell to? There must be a channel of distribution, at the broker/wholesaler level, that purchases and distributes meat/fish products, to the restaurants and secondary restaurant wholesalers, in each region of the USA. We need to find who that is. One way to do this is to find a restaurant that sells venisin/elk on their menu, and ask the owner/manager of that restaurant, where they purchased it. Then, go there and trace backwards. If one person can do that in each NAEBA region, we would have a very good starting place.

I will try to find this out in my travels but it may take a few months.

Suggest we all grab a small part of this, communicate it here to start, then take it off this site and work behind the scenes, coordinating with the NAEBA board. More on that to follow.

Complaining is good, if we do something about it. Make lemonaide as the saying goes.

Anybody like this idea?
