NAEBA 10th Annual Convention Kicks Off with
"Best of the Best Elk Sale"
Bred Cows Average Almost $8,000
The tenth annual convention of the North American Elk Breeders Association got
underway on Wednesday evening in Minneapolis.
To start the convention, the Minnesota Elk Breeders Association sponsored a
sale that boasted "The Best of the Best". Twenty one bred heifers and young cows were sold to the highest
bidder with the average price being just under $8,000. Details about the genetics and the averages are
posted on the Auctions page.
Thursday activities include the annual business meeting of the membership,
regional meetings and elections, culminating in an elk/semen sale in the evening.
The seminars start on Friday. Elk farmers, old, new, and wanna be can
learn, rub elbows with those that have done this a while longer and network with other ranchers. NAEBA
will celebrate its 10th birthday on Friday: definite cause for celebration!
Saturday offers more seminars PLUS a free day where the trade show will be
open to the public. The closing banquet and awards will top the evening on Saturday.
If you are an elk farmer or an "almost" elk farmer, if you have not been to a
NAEBA convention, if you can get yourself over to Minneapolis, DO IT. You will NOT regret it. It will
reinforce all of the reasons that you got into this great business. It will reassure you that the vast
majority of the elk ranchers and the NAEBA Board and staff have the best interests of this industry very
high on their priority list. It will open up all sorts of new avenues and ideas and opportunities. It
will rev your engine. justdoit
